Garmin GPSMAP 695 Color Aviation GPS Portable (Americas)

Garmin GPSMAP 695 Color Aviation GPS Portable (Americas)
Bought this and an AirGizmos panel dock to replace the aging Apollo GX55 and Argus 5000/CE in my cockpit. Also added the optional GDL 39 unit for TIS-B traffic and free weather. Not only did I gain useful load by removing the old GPS units, I added a great deal of functionality that wasn't previously available. This unit is solidly-built, performs flawlessly and gives me more information than I can shake a stick at. Adding and editing flight plans is a snap using either waypoint identifiers or by using the map cursor. OBS mode is nice if ATC gives me a heading that takes me off route, then once cleared back on course, the waypoint sequencing resumes. SafeTaxi charts and approach plates are clear and concise. It may be expensive, but the traffic and terrain alerts alone are more than worth the money (considering the alternative!). All in all, 5 stars, works flawlessly! Highly Recommend! - Customer Reviews

Product Description Garmin GPSMAP 695 Color Aviation GPS Portable (Americas) With features that focus on aviation-only navigation and mapping, GPSMAP 695 is Garmin's ultimate portable MFD. Similar to the 696, the GPSMAP 695 comes with a large screen and detailed electronic charts — minus XM compatibility — at a price you'll love. See the Big Picture The GPSMAP 695's bright 7-inch diagonal high-definition sunlight-readable display makes detailed mapping easy to see day or night — you can even view an entire approach plate on the large-format display. For easy operation, the bezel around the screen includes soft keys and a joystick control. And with a fast 5 Hz GPS update rate, the 695 renders graphics and presents flight data smoothly and continuously. No Charts? No Problem. With the addition of Garmin FliteCharts®¹ and IFR map mode, the GPSMAP 695 has Class 1/Class 2 electronic flight bag (EFB) capability, reducing the use of paper charts in the cockpit. With FliteCharts, you can quickly find and view all U.S. NACO departure procedures (DP), standard terminal arrival routes (STARs), approach charts and airport diagrams. If the current approach is known, GPSMAP 695 automatically selects the correct chart based on the flight plan. When in IFR map mode, the 695 can display victor airways, jet routes, minimum enroute altitude and leg distance, much like found on paper enroute charts. Enhance Situational Awareness The GPSMAP 695 features a high-resolution terrain page showing hazards relative to your altitude and a vertical profile of terrain along your route of flight. It comes with a built-in Jeppesen database, and an Americas, Atlantic or Pacific terrain database. It also includes an obstacles database for the U.S. or Europe. Using this information, the 695 displays your flight route over contour terrain mapping. With information from the terrain and obstacles databases, the 695 monitors your current position in relation to surrounding terrain to provide aler

Garmin GPSMAP 196 Aviation GPS Receiver

Garmin GPSMAP 196 Aviation GPS Receiver
The technology has been around for years but works fine. To upgrade with Garmin, it was difficult. I finally got it done. Since I fly a plane with a glass panel, I use this as backup in case of electrical failure with the on-board equipment. I chose the Garmin because of reputation and the fact that the AA batteries last quite a while. The "Anywhere" GPS, that was in the running, the batteries don't last that long. I practiced with the Garmin, in my dining room, for about a month and finally nailed it. - Customer Reviews

Garmin GPSMAP 696 Color Portable Aviation GPS

Garmin GPSMAP 696 Color Portable Aviation GPS
I have been a Garmin fan for years and learned to fly IFR in a 430 equipped C 172. I sold my Garmin 396 when I started with the airlines. I thought the technology would go with the tablets so I kept watching all my friends with Fore-flight and it seems anybody that's anybody has that set up. Problem is that when you exit the large aircraft and climb in the smaller ones you have nothing for weather. Now with a turbo-prop or jet you can fly around or over most of the real ugly stuff but with a 182 in the mountains you have fewer options. I for one need to know what that pricip ahead amounts to. Is it a shower or a squall line? Can I get around the mess? Because I sure can't get over it in my tiny tin. As I write this I see some progress towards real time weather on the pads but it takes some big$$ and multiple units to maintain and keep power to. One thing for sure is this Garmin is PURE aviation and does't skip a second of information. The screen is just the right size to still fit on the yoke and we already know how to run it because it is a Garmin. So as it turns out I'll be toting my portable Garmin around wherever the wings take me (it is sort of heavy) and paying XM to show me the storms. I hate the payments but when your butt is on the line it's priceless. I also have used the Garmin terrain page to save my bacon more than once when the vis went to crap and me in the valley between 14-15k cumulo-granite ..pucker..pucker Like I said priceless in small planes. - Customer Reviews

Garmin aera 510 Color Touchscreen Aviation GPS (Americas)
The 510 is easy to use and quick to pick up the Sats. I like the dash mount that comes with it, as it stays in place both on the car dash and aircraft dash. Changes from one to the other in seconds. Easy to enter airport identifiers. Towers, windmills and other things to avoid stand out clearly. I have not had the chance to use all of the features yet, but so far the ones used have been fun. - Customer Reviews
